Is linking your Delta SkyMiles and Lyft accounts worth it?

Delta Lyft - Link Accounts

This is a rhetorical question. However, anytime I can earn free miles, I would do it. But seriously, if you have a Delta SkyMiles account and use Lyft in the US, link the two accounts and watch your miles accumulate. However, are the miles really free? I think the answer may be a bit complicated. What I know, since I’ve linked my accounts, is that I haven’t noticed the price of my Lyft rides go up, hence my claim of “free” miles. I actually think the price has gone down.

Traditionally, linking the two accounts yield 1 mile per $1 spent on rides in the US. And, “for a limited time” 2 miles per $1 spent on airport rides.

And, for this 2018 holiday season the deal has been sweetened a bit:

“Members with linked accounts can earn 10X miles on airport rides and 3X miles on all other rides in the US until 12/25/18. Enter SKYMILES10X in the “Promos” section of your Lyft app to qualify. Offer valid 12/14/18-12/25/18.”

How to Link your Lyft and Delta SkyMiles Accounts

This is a great deal for business travelers who have a Delta SkyMiles account and use Lyft for transportation. Once the accounts are linked you don’t need to do anything else; from my experience the miles are automatically deposited within 48-hours.

Depending on how and when you redeem the Delta SkyMiles, they are worth between 1.0 and 1.3 cents, in my humble opinion. With that in mind, if you don’t take advantage of this offer, I think you are leaving money behind. While this program may not be costing Lyft much, in the grand scheme of things, it is a great perk to set them apart from the competition.
